Our Programs and Partners
Family Resource Center of the RedwoodsThe Family Resource Center of the Redwoods is both a partner and a program of First 5 Del Norte. First 5 owns the building at 494 Pacific Avenue and contracts with the non-profit Family Resource Center of the Redwoods to manage day to day operations and provide family and school-readiness programming to the community. This is our largest investment in the Del Norte Community. Learn more about the programs offered at the FRC of the Redwoods' website or like their page on Facebook.

Local Oral Health ProgramThe California Healthcare, Research, and Prevention Tobacco Act of 2016 (Proposition 56) provides funding for 61 Local Health Jurisdictions (LHJs) to create and expand capacity at the local level to educate, prevent, and provide linkages to treatment programs. Grantees establish or expand upon existing programs by including the following activities related to oral health: education, disease prevention, community-clinical linkages, and surveillance. These local-level activities will improve the oral health of all Californians. More information about CDPH Local Oral Health Programs is available on their website: cdph.ca.gov |
Kit for New ParentsFirst 5 California provides these kits for every new parent in California. They contain valuable information about your child's health and development, a free board book, and more! First 5 Del Norte adds additional resources targeted to our local families. If you are past 20 weeks of pregnancy or have recently given birth and did NOT receive a Kit from your OB or a public health nurse, please contact or stop by the FRC of the Redwoods at 494 Pacific Avenue, Crescent City, 464-0955, to arrange to pick one up.

Early LiteracyFirst 5 promotes early literacy through a variety of programs including Reach Out and Read, the Wonder Bus, the Talk.Read.Sing. campaign, and Little Free Libraries. Talking, reading, and singing to young children helps build their language skills long before they can talk.
We also give a gift of board books to new parents in partnership with Sutter Coast Hospital. Babies love books! |
Community GrantsKids thrive when their whole community cares about them. First 5 Del Norte supports organizations doing good things for children by giving a small number of mini-grants each year to community partners. Mini-grants in 2019-20 are $1,000 or less. Mini-grant applications for this year are available at this link. The next deadline for applications is close of business on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Other Programs and AdvocacyFirst 5 Del Norte has a variety of other programs and services. First 5 works with the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) and Resilient DNATL to raise awareness of childhood traumas and build community resilience. We also support the Family Assistance Network (FAN), which meets the first Tuesday of every month at 8:30 AM at the FRC of the Redwoods.
